A mulching head is a steel drum with carbide teeth. It spins fast enough to grind standing brush and small trees where they stand, and it leaves the material on the ground as mulch. One machine, one pass, nothing hauled away. Read more on our forestry mulching page.

Mulching leaves the root ball in the ground. The head can take a stump flush with the dirt and a little below. If the stumps have to come out, that is a clearing job, and we do that too: stumps and root balls are pulled with the excavator or raked out with the dozer's root rake, and the holes are filled and graded.

Some will. Cut stems on privet, sweetgum and kudzu send shoots up again. The mulch layer slows it down a good deal, and a second pass a year or two later is far quicker than the first. Anybody promising a permanent kill in one visit is guessing.

Brush, briars, privet, kudzu, saplings and standing hardwood up to roughly six to eight inches on the stump. Bigger timber than that is a clearing job for the dozer, the root rake and the excavator. We look at what is standing and tell you which it is.

A bush hog mows grass and soft stems. A mulcher grinds woody material. If a tractor can already drive across it, a bush hog will likely do. If it is briars, privet and saplings you cannot walk through, that is mulcher work.

Usually nothing. It breaks down over a season or two and covers the dirt in the meantime. If you are planting a food plot or seeding pasture it can be spread thin or pushed aside. Say so before we start.

Usable. Clearing that stops when the trees are down leaves a rough, rutted, stump-holed piece of ground. We fill the holes, pull the ground back to grade, spread or stack the spoil where you want it, and set the fall so water leaves the site.

Yes. We look at the property, or go over it with you on satellite if you are not close by, and give you a number for your job.

Because a number that fits every property does not exist. Two tracts the same size can be far apart in cost depending on what is standing on them, how steep and wet the ground is and whether a trailer can get near it. Our cost guide shows what moves the number.

On small jobs, yes. Getting the equipment loaded, hauled, unloaded and back takes the same effort for a short job as a long one. You hear the minimum before you commit to anything.

Yes. We can go over the property with you on satellite and get close on price before anybody drives anywhere. Then we look at it on the ground before the work starts.

Alabama 811 is the free call-before-you-dig service, and a locate request has to be made before digging starts. A locate does not mark private lines, such as a water line you ran yourself or the field lines off a septic tank. Tell us about those.

Structures built before the early 1980s may contain it, and the Alabama Department of Environmental Management has rules about how it is handled in demolition. Tell us the age of the building when you call.

The Alabama Forestry Commission issues burn permits and is who to ask, and a burn ban can change the answer overnight. Building and demolition debris is a different matter and goes to a permitted landfill. See our Alabama burn permit guide.

Yes. A pad with a driveway and drainage, a pad built after a demolition, or brush cleared around a building that is coming down are all commonly done together. It saves hauling the machines twice.
