Uplands on the US-82 side
US-82 crosses Pickens County through Gordo and Reform on its way from Tuscaloosa to Columbus, Mississippi. Around those two towns the ground is rolling timber and pasture. Forestry and lumber mills are still a working part of the economy, so cutover is part of the landscape, and so is old pasture going back to pine saplings and briars. A mulcher handles both in one pass and leaves the chips to cover the sand. Past roughly six to eight inches on the stump it becomes a dozer job, with the stumps raked out and the ground graded.
Low ground toward the Tombigbee
Carrollton, the county seat, sits in the center of the county, with Highway 17 running north to Reform. South and west of it the land falls toward the river. The Tennessee-Tombigbee Waterway passes Pickensville, where the Tom Bevill Lock and Dam backs up Aliceville Lake. Ground this low wants its work done in dry weather. A field that stays wet or a yard that holds water usually needs the grade reshaped and a ditch or swale to carry it off, which is what our yard drainage and grading work is for. Wetlands and streams come under the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, so ask before ditching near either.

Hunting land needs three things cut: lanes to shoot down, trails to ride and plots to plant. Timber along the Sipsey and the Tombigbee bottoms grows thick underneath, and a mulcher opens it without pulling a stump or leaving a pile. Tell us where the stands are, or ride it with us.
