The Smith Lake side
Lewis Smith Lake lies along the southwest border of Cullman County, and Crane Hill and Bremen are the lake communities on this side. A lake lot usually needs clearing and a road in before anything else. We mulch the slope so the dirt stays covered, clear to bare ground only where the house and drive go, and can cut the pad in the same trip. Where the water goes
I-65 and US-31 run north to south through the middle of the county, and the creeks fall away on both sides, to the Mulberry Fork along the southeast edge and to Smith Lake on the southwest. On the farms between, the trouble is usually water with nowhere to go: a shop that takes water across the slab, a drive that ruts at the low spot, a pad built without fall.
