House Demolition in Winfield, AL
An empty house in Winfield does not get better with time. We take it down, haul the debris to a permitted site, remove the concrete and leave the lot filled and graded.

Empty houses and old outbuildings, gone in one job
Half the question in Winfield is which county you are standing in. The town spans the Marion and Fayette county line, so two houses with the same mailing town can answer to different courthouses. The other half is simpler. An empty house draws vines, water and trouble, the roof goes, and every season it stands the cleanup gets bigger. At some point taking it down is the cheaper road.
We bring the building down with the excavator and load it out. All of the debris goes to a permitted site. The slab, piers and footings come out, the hole is filled in packed layers and the lot is graded so water leaves it. Sheds, carports and barns on the same property can go on the same trip. Winfield touches our home county and Marion County both, so it is close to home.
When it is done you have a lot you can mow, sell or build on. If brush has taken the yard, we can clean that up while the machines are there. The scope is laid out on the main house demolition page, and our Winfield land clearing page covers the clearing, mulching and dirt work we do around town.

Before you tear down in Winfield
City Hall, zoning and building permits
The City of Winfield has a zoning ordinance, Ordinance No. 951, and a Planning Commission. The city says the commission makes available the forms and applications needed to comply with the zoning ordinance and with the building permits the city requires. All of that runs through City Hall on Bankhead Highway. Call before you set a date and ask what a demolition needs. More in our guide to demolition permits in Alabama.
Three utilities to call
The city lists its utility providers. Water and sewer come from the Winfield Water Works and Sewer Board. Gas comes from the Northwest Alabama Gas District. Power is Alabama Power or Tombigbee Electric Cooperative, depending on where the house sits. Each one disconnects its own service, and that has to be done before a machine touches the building. Start those calls early. If there is a leased propane tank, the gas company that owns it collects it.
Marion County or Fayette County
Find out which county the parcel is in before you call anyone about taxes or records. Your property tax notice will say. Most of Winfield is in Marion County, with part of it in Fayette County, and the county office that carries the building on its books is the one to ask what it needs once the building is gone. For asbestos, ADEM handles both counties and says a privately owned residence of four or fewer units that stays residential is exempt from its asbestos regulations. Other buildings may need a survey and notice.

Do I need a permit to demolish a house in Winfield, AL?
Ask Winfield City Hall before work is booked. The city has a zoning ordinance and a Planning Commission, and it says the commission provides the forms for the building permits the city requires. Tell them the address and that the house is coming down. Have your permit in hand, or ask us what to line up first.
Is my Winfield property in Marion County or Fayette County?
Winfield spans both, so check your property tax notice or the deed. It matters for demolition because the tax records, and any county rules outside the city limits, belong to whichever county holds the parcel. We work both counties, so the line makes no difference to us.
Who shuts off the utilities before a Winfield house demolition?
Each utility does its own. In Winfield that is the Winfield Water Works and Sewer Board for water and sewer, the Northwest Alabama Gas District for gas, and Alabama Power or Tombigbee Electric Cooperative for power. Call them as soon as you decide to tear down, and let us know when everything is off.
Can you clean up the overgrown lot around an abandoned house in Winfield?
Yes. Brush, briars, privet and saplings around the building can be mulched or cleared on the same visit, so the machines only move once. Tell us which trees you want kept and mark them. What you get back is the whole lot, not just the spot where the house stood.
