House Demolition in Northport, AL
Houses, sheds, carports and storage buildings in and around Northport taken down and hauled off, with the concrete out and the ground filled, packed and graded for whatever comes next.

Teardowns on town lots and on the land north of town
A teardown in Northport is one of two jobs. In town it is a small lot with a neighbor on each side, a house that is past repair and an owner who wants to rebuild or sell. Go north toward the lake or west toward Coker and it is an old house on acreage with a shed or two behind it and brush right up to the walls. Both end the same way: the building gone and the ground usable.
We bring the structure down with the excavator, load the debris and haul it to a permitted site. Then the slab and footings are broken out, the footprint is filled in layers with each one packed, and the lot is graded so water runs off it. Sheds, carports and storage buildings can be a job on their own or go with the house. Northport and the rest of Tuscaloosa County are inside our service area, and we take jobs on both sides of the city limits.
On an overgrown place we can open the drive, take the building down and clean up the lot around it in one visit. If a new home is going back on the spot, the pad can be cut, filled and packed before the machines leave. The main house demolition page covers the full scope, and the Northport land clearing page covers the rest of what we do here.

Northport rules and ground conditions
Planning and Inspections at City Hall
The City of Northport's Planning and Inspections Department handles the city's planning, zoning and building rules from Northport City Hall. A city's reach can go a little past its limits, so an address just outside town may still be theirs. Call before you set a date and ask what a demolition at your address requires. The steps are laid out in our guide, do you need a permit to demolish a house in Alabama.
Older houses and the historic commission
Northport was incorporated in 1871, so some of its houses are old enough to raise two questions. If the house is in one of the older parts of town, ask Planning and Inspections whether historic review applies before you plan around a teardown date. Older houses also raise the asbestos question. ADEM, the state agency, says regulated structures must be surveyed before demolition by an inspector with state accreditation, and it treats a privately owned residence of four or fewer units that stays residential differently. Ask ADEM which applies.
High ground, low ground and the river
Northport sits on the north bank of the Black Warrior River, across from downtown Tuscaloosa, at the fall line where the hills give way to the coastal plain. That shows in the dirt. There is high ground north of town and low ground toward the river, and Tuscaloosa County lots can go from firm clay to soft bottom in a short distance. On low ground the fill and the final grade matter most, because a filled footprint that holds water is a problem you will meet again.

Does the City of Northport require a permit to demolish a house?
Ask the Planning and Inspections Department at Northport City Hall before any work is booked. That department handles the city's building rules. Give them the address and ask what a teardown needs. If the answer is a permit, have it in hand first, or ask us what to line up.
Can you tear down just a shed or carport in Northport?
Yes. Sheds, carports, barns and storage buildings are all work we take. Small jobs carry a minimum, because loading and hauling a machine costs the same for a short job as a long one, and you hear that figure before you commit to anything. Send a couple of photos and the address to get started.
Can you demolish a house on a tight lot in Northport?
Often, yes. What decides it is room for the excavator to work and for trucks to load without crossing the neighbor's yard. Send photos of the house, the drive and both side yards, or let us come look. Not sure your lot is one we can work? Text us the photos at (205) 535-6376 and we will tell you.
How long before I can build after a house is torn down in Northport?
That depends more on the fill than on the teardown. Once the slab and footings are out, the hole is filled in layers and each layer is packed, so the ground is firm when we leave. If a new house is planned, tell us up front. The pad can be built on the same trip, and your builder takes it from there.
