Clearing, Mulching & Dirt Work in Northport
Kentuck was Northport's first name. Settlers who arrived in 1813 called the place Kentuck or Canetuck, and it became North Port for the plain reason that it stood on the north bank of the Black Warrior River across from Tuscaloosa. The name was made official in 1832, and the arts festival held each October still carries the old one. North of the river the ground climbs, and the lots go from small and close together to wooded and steep.
Northport is on our side of the river. Coming down from Fayette County, we reach it before we reach Tuscaloosa, and it is inside our service area, like the rest of Tuscaloosa County. We are a land clearing, forestry mulching and excavating outfit with our own machines: a Cat dozer, tracked loaders with mulching heads and an excavator. Tell us where the property is and what is on it. Estimates are free. Call or text (205) 535-6376.
Four jobs, four pages
Each kind of work here has its own page with the detail. Overgrown acreage and wooded lots: forestry mulching in Northport. Footings, trenches, drainage and stumps: excavating. An old house, shed or carport that has to go: house demolition. Dead or leaning trees a machine can get to: tree removal. If the lot is up by the water, read lot clearing on Lake Tuscaloosa first. Everything else in the county is on the Tuscaloosa County page.
Low by the river, high toward the lake
A levee runs along the north bank of the Black Warrior at Northport, with a paved trail on top of it, which tells you how low the old part of town sits. Down there the lots are small, the houses are close and drainage is the first question on any dirt job. Head north and it changes fast. Lake Tuscaloosa lies just north of town, and the ground toward it is wooded and steep. Those slopes get mulched and left covered. The City of Tuscaloosa has its own rules for land next to the lake, so check before you cut.
In town or out past it
Northport is two places. In town it is subdivision lots and commercial lots with a building on either side. Go north up US-43 or west on US-82 toward Coker and it opens out quickly into timber, pasture and hunting land. We take both. In town the compact tracked loader does most of it. Out of town the dozer and excavator come along for the clearing, the drive and the pad. For permits inside the city, ask at Northport City Hall before a building comes down or a lot is graded.

One job, one town: Northport pages
Do you clear wooded lots north of Northport toward Lake Tuscaloosa?
Yes. Wooded lots north of town are cleared or mulched depending on what the lot is for: the house site and drive are cleared with stumps out, and the slopes are mulched so the dirt stays covered. Property directly next to the lake comes under City of Tuscaloosa rules, including a land development permit. Check with the city first, and we work to the limits you are given.
Can you clear an overgrown back yard or small lot in Northport, AL?
Yes. Small lots with houses either side are normal work in town. A compact tracked loader with a mulching head grinds privet, briars and saplings where they stand and leaves chips instead of a pile. Tell us the gate width, what is overhead and where any private lines run. Small jobs carry a minimum, and you hear the figure before you commit.
Who do I ask about a permit to grade or demolish in Northport?
Inside the city limits, ask the City of Northport at City Hall what your job needs. Outside them, ask the county. Ask before work is scheduled, not after. Alabama 811 has to be called before any digging, and a house built before the early 1980s may need an asbestos check under ADEM rules before it is torn down.
